Nestled in the cedar forests above Kyoto, this intimate home wakes each morning wrapped in mountain mist. A 45-minute drive from central Kyoto, yet a world apart.
The Story of This Home
This intimate machiya-style home was built in the late Taisho period by a calligrapher who sought solitude in the mountains above Kyoto. The cedar-paneled study where he worked still faces the same grove of bamboo. We restored the home in 2024, preserving every original shoji screen and tatami room.
