The Story of This Home
A sprawling gassho-zukuri home in the Japanese Alps, built in the Edo period to house both a family and their silkworm operation on the upper floors. The steep thatched roof — designed to shed heavy mountain snow — is one of the finest examples of its kind still standing. Restored in 2025 with a team of twelve local craftspeople over fourteen months.
